Afterwards the shifting response has greatly improved. Remove the two E12 torx holding the cable bracket to the transmission to give yourself more space and get to work with some pliers or a small c-clamp, pliers worked better for me.
The small press tools they send you as well are wonderful, they are plastic but they are tough. The cable ends on the Mini Cooper, , did not come off the ends of the cable so I had to do the repair while the ends were on the vehicle, which made it more difficult. I used a pair of channel locks to press the new bushing into the cable end.
It worked out well and the shifter is repaired and feels much better. The kit has a very good system for pressing the bushing but because I was in the engine well I could not use it but was able to install the part without damage.
