They made up games using balls, following their own whims or rules they made up to suit their group of players. Children and teens alike enjoyed various types of fighting with their feet.

Lawn bowling was particularly popular during the Renaissance. For the common, working masses of people, games and entertainment turned to the outdoors since their homes were seldom conducive to most types of activities.

They enjoyed participating in and being spectators at events such as boxing, football games, bullfights, horse racing, and bear baiting. Hide and Seek was much the same then as it is today. This was sometimes used by adults with their children to train them, through fun, for hunting and hiding if the village was attacked.

Children also played tag, depicted in tapestries and other artwork of the day. There were hundreds of versions of tag along with other games, and very often adults would join in for a break from agricultural and household work. Games of chance , such as Knucklebones, were also popular among adults.

Knucklebones were made from the vertebrae of animals. Four bones were used, each having four sides, each of a different shape. The game was played by virtually every person from all walks of life, from the royalty to peasants. Another popular game was Basetta, in which the dealer lays down three cards. Players then have to draw a card from the pack with the aim of matching any of the exposed cards. Chess was likewise a favorite game during the Renaissance.

It is said that the game was played in Florence as early as the 14th century. One popular ball game played during that era was Pallone, where a ball had to be struck by a person using his fist. The object of the game was for the players not to let the said ball rest on their side of the field. Troubadours Minstrels. Games were played by the Upper classes and the Lower classes.
